With the intensity of the monsoon rains increasing in Kerala. most of the rivers have been flooded. The Indian Meteorological department has informed the rains could be very heavy this entire week. Red alert has been issued to districts such as Idukki, Wayanad and Malappuram and orange alert has been issued to Ernakulam, Trichur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, until August 9.

The floods that were caused in the Periyar River has washed away wildlife, cattle and other resources. Video footage of an elephant calf that got washed away in the floods at Neriamangalam, Ernakulam District became viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the rescue team informed that the elephant calf died in the floods. It is said that the calf might have been three years old.
