August 7 is observed as the National Handloom Day. A fashion show was organised to promote handloom garments amid the public by Makkal Sevai Mayyam, which has been organising events for the past four years on the Handloom Day. The event took place in Peelamedu. The preliminary selection was made through online competition and the finals took place in Peelamedu today.
BJP State Vice President Vanathi Srinivasan took part as the Special Guest at this event.
The onlookers were enthralled to watch the students selected for the fashion parade who wore captivating handloom clothes.
Following the event, Vanathi Srinivasan spoke to the press and said, "In line with government's measures to promote handloom textiles, the Coimbatore Makkal Sevai Maiam conducts handloom fashion shows every year. The rising importance of the BJP in TN is proven by the fact that many Dravidian party executives and cadres have been joining the BJP."
Answering a question about the upcoming Assembly elections she said, "Various welfare projects are undertaken in the Coimbatore South constituency where I contested from."
