Coimbatore: With the highest ever number of deaths reported today with 119 people succumbing to COVID in the State, the death toll in Tamil Nadu is just shy of 4,700 mark on Friday. The total number of Covid-related fatalities in the state increased to 4571, according to the state media bulletin.

As many as 5,880 fresh cases were reported taking the total tally to 2,85,024 in the State.
State capital Chennai witnessed a steady decline with 984 people testing positive for the infection. Chengalpet reported 319 cases while Kancheepuram registered 169 and Thiruvallur 388 cases.
Cuddalore, Coimbatore Ranipet, Theni, Thanjavur, Thiruvannamalai, and Tirunelveli reported 200 or more cases.
The districts of Tirupur and The Nilgiris recorded 31 and 13 cases, respectively.
There was a steep increase in testing on Friday as 67,352 persons were tested for Covid-19 in the State.
In some positive news, the number of recoveries were at 6,488, taking the total count of recoveries to 2,27,575.
