Coimbatore: The flood situation in the Bhavani river is being reviewed by Ministers S.P. Velumani and Udumalai Radhakrishnan at Mettupalayam.

For the past three days, 10,000 to 32,000 cft water has been released from the Pillur dam near Mettupalayam. This excess water is being let out into the Bhavani river, causing the Bhavanin river to flood.

For the fourth consecutive day, the District Administration has issued flood warning to the people on the banks of the river. The preventive measures taken by the district administration were inspected and reviewed by Minister S.P. Velumani and Minister Udumalai Radhakrishnan.

The Ministers reviewed it from the top of the Bhavani bridge and held a consultation with the officials.

Flood waters entered into homes on the banks of the Bhavani river, last year. Precautionary measures were planned to combat the situation if it occurs this year around.

Speaking to the press after the review, Ministers S.P. Velumani said, "Arrangements are being made to conduct a review of the flood situation in the Nilgiris, on the orders of the CM. We will review the flood situation in the Nilgiris and inform the CM."

He further informed, "Last year, during the Southwest monsoon 80,000 cft of water was released into the Bhavani River at Mettupalayam. This caused flood waters to enter into houses and cause heavy loss. To prevent this and to keep the people safe, marriage halls are kept ready. Further, 300 houses are being constructed to move the people living in the river banks to higher areas."
