Houses in Valparai damaged by continuous rain

Coimbatore: Many houses in Valparai were damaged by continuous rain yesterday. Valparai in Coimbatore district continues to receive heavy rains causing landslides in various places.

Several compound walls were damaged by trees falling on them. A house in MGR Nagar, Valparai, was completely damaged when the compound wall of the house on the top floor collapsed.

Revenue officials who came to know about the incident have visited with municipal and health departments officials and are investigating. More than a dozen homes have been flooded inside Dobi colony near the new bus stand.



All of them have been safely rescued and are staying at the Government College of Arts and Sciences. Vazhaithottam, Dobi colony, Kamaraj Nagar Children's Park and Stanmore area are being monitored by all departments in collaboration with the police.

Valparai received 231 mm of rain in a single day yesterday. The flooding at the Government Transport Corporation workshop damaged various items including oil kept in the workshop. Heavy rain continues to bucket down in Valparai. The power supply has been affected for two days now.
