Coimbatore: Minister S.P. Velumani inspected the water pathways to the Kurichi pond and the Puttuvikki bridge.
Heavy monsoon rains have been lashing out over the past few days at the water catchment areas of the Siruvani dam and Noyyal river. As a result of this, the Noyyal river has been flooding.
The rain water is being diverted through the Rajvaikal to the water sources of Coimbatore like the Vedapatti, Pudhukulam, Narsampathi and Kolarampathi lakes. Similarly, water has also been opened to the Kurichi canal.
Due to the flooding of the Noyyal, water bodies on the path of the Noyyal, including Chemmedu, Perur Chettipalayam, Kanga Narayana Samudhirakulam and the Perur Periyakulam have an increased inflow of water.
Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. visited the Kurichi Kulam and inspected its water pathways. He also inspected the Puttuvikki bridge.
The Minister requested the public to construct rain water harvesting structures at home to increase the water sources and support the government.
