Heavy-duty truck veers into residential area in Zamin Uthukuli near Pollachi

A lorry driver who lost control of a heavy-duty truck lost control and rammed into a residential area in Zamin Uthukuli near Pollachi, on Wednesday. Luckily, none were injured in the incident.

Coimbatore: A lorry driver who lost control of a heavy-duty truck lost control and rammed into a residential area in Zamin Uthukuli near Pollachi, on Wednesday.Luckily, none wereinjured in the incident. However, traffic came to astandstill for nearly four hours.

A Taurus truck that was on its way to the Kozhikode harbour, Kerala, from the Thoothukudi harbour via Pollachi, was driven by Ponnudurai of Kadayam, Pavoorchatram. When the truck reached near Krishna Kulam in Zamin Uthukuli near Pollachi, the driver allegedly lost control and veered into a residential area. 



Upon receiving information, the police arrived to the spot and expedited the process of clearing the truck from the accident scene. Later, threeJCB vehicles were pressed into service to clear the debris and the truck.



Speaking regarding this, the Pollachi West Police station Inspector Vairam said, "The lorry carrying wooden logs from the Thoothukudi port was on its way to Kerala, via Pollachi. When the driver attempted to turn the lorry in a curve, he lost control of the vehicle and the lorry rammed into a residential area. The residents of the area were evacuated safely and no casualities have been reported. However, an investigation is on to clarify whether the lorry was overloaded."

This incident halted traffic in the area for nearly four hours.
