As many as 61,166 samples were tested, taking the total specimens screened to 29,53,561, so far.
Of the new infections, Chennai posted 1,044 and its nearby three districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur accounted for 487, 342 and 472 cases, respectively.
While Coimbatore registered a way too low single-day jump of 112 cases after days, Tirupur registered 26 cases and The Nilgiris just 36.
In some good news, active cases went down to 54,184 as recoveries touched 2,14,815 including 6,031 people who were discharged today.
