Coimbatore: Labourers Deputy Commissioner Venkatesan informed that 96% of unorganised sector workers have been paid the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Informing this he said, “While 96% of the workers in the unorganised sector have been paid the relief funds, those who have not received it must submit their bank account information before August 14.”
With the implementation of the lockdown since March 24, construction workers and other un-organised sector workers have been greatly affected.
It was announced by the TN government that RS.2,000 will be provided as relief fund through the Labourers Welfare board. As per this order it was calculated that 35,067 workers of the construction board, 65,035 workers of the unorganised sector board, a total of 1,00,102 workers registered with the labourers welfare board were eligible to receive the relief fund.
Those workers with bank accounts and those who provided proper information regarding their bank accounts were provided with the Rs.2,000 relief fund. This covered 96% if the workers.
Speaking regarding this, the Coimbatore District Labourers Deputy Commissioner Venkatesan said, “Those labourers who do not hold bank accounts have been sent their Relief fund through post. However, some of the funds were returned, as the concerned people did not reside at the location. Similarly, funds sent to some of the Bank accounts were also returned for various reasons.”
He also said that an advisory meeting was conducted with the Labour Unions and as per the decision made there, those labourers registered in the welfare board, who have not yet received the funds can send their bank account details to the office of the Labourers Deputy Commissioner located at the regulated market campus in Ramanathapuram, in person or through post.
