Coimbatore: Corporation officials have informed that Rs.16.31 lakhs have been collected as fines from people who were spotted in public without a face mask.

To control the spread of COVID-19 the District Collector K. Rajamani advised the use of face masks and the importance of maintaining social distancing.Following this a fine of Rs.100 was collected from people who were spotted without face masks.
In addition to this, under the orders of the Corporation Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar, 20 flying squads consisting of health department and corporation workers were formed. The task of penalising people spotted without face masks was intensified.
Speaking regarding this a Corporation official said, "The inspections conducted by the flying squads within the Corporation limits have led to the collection Rs. 16.31 lakhs as fines from the public for not wearing face masks."
