The increase in the spread of COVID-19 all over the district has made the district administration undertake various measures to control the spread, The most affected category of people in the current situation seem to be the police. Policemen from various police stations including the ones at Podanur, Madukkarai, Thudiyalur, Ukkadam and Sulur have tested positive for COVID-19. This had led to the closure of these police stations.
A couple of days ago a Sub Inspector and a Special Wing Head Constable tested positive at Annur. The Sub inspector's wife was turned positive. Following this, the police station was closed down. All the station related work is handled from a tent set up near the police station. Following this, other cops at the station were also tested for COVID-19. The testing revealed that the Special Sub Inspector and the Head writer to be COVID-19 positive. They were admitted to ESI hospital for treatment.
Those who worked with the COVID-19 positive persons for a case including the home guards division and other policemen were tested at the Kovilpalayam PHC. Their sputum samples were sent for testing.
A total of nine cops including a special SI, two female head constables, two first grade women constables and four first grade constables turned positive for the dreaded virus. This has left only three more cops to work at the Annur police station. The sudden spike in the number of cases at the Annur police station has left the police in a frightened state.
