Coimbatore: DMK's Coimbatore South District In-charge Thendral Selvaraj and party functionaries petitioned the Pollachi Sub Collector regarding the irregularities in the underground sewerage project that has been taking place in Pollachi for the past four years at a cost of Rs. 200 crores.

Coimbatore: DMK's Coimbatore South District In-charge Thendral Selvaraj and party functionaries petitioned the Pollachi Sub Collector regarding the irregularities in the underground sewerage project that has been taking place in Pollachi for the past four years at a cost of Rs. 200 crores.

"The underground sewerage work in the urban areas of Pollachi have been taking place at a cost of Rs.110 crores for the past four years. An additional Rs.90 crores has now been pumped into the project making it a Rs. 200 crore project. However, the city streets have all been dug up and have not been closed down leading to a lot of difficulty for the public.

The DMK has submitted many petitions to the Municipal Commissioner and the Sub-Collector many times. No action has been taken until now", lamented the petition.

The petition also stated, "With most of the streets dug up and few of them closed to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Raghavendra Mandapam road, Market road, the road in front of the Erode cow market that leads to the railway station, Venkataramana street, New Scheme road and many other places where the roads are dug up cause heavy traffic jams.

Another problem is the breakage of drinking water pipelines when the streets are being dug for the underground sewerage project.

The broken pipelines are not fixed leading to water shortage. The project is a scam. For the past four years, the people of Pollachi have been put through a lot of difficulty."

The petition was submitted in the presence of City Council Secretary Dr. Varadarajan. Amuthabharathi, Karthikeyan, Perumal and many others.
