Tirupur: Taxi drivers in Tirupur surrendered their Aadhaar and ration cards in protest stating that they have lost their livelihood and demanded relaxations in issuance of E-passes.

They stated most of them have not worked since March when the lockdown was declared as a result of which their livelihoods have been affected. They lamented there had not been any relaxation in road taxes and they were waiting for the lockdown to be lifted in August in order to rebuild their lives, but the continuation of the lockdown has landed them deep into woes.

They surrendered their ID documents such as Aadhar, ration and voter cards and asked they be declared as refugees if the E-pass system continues without permission for operating vehicles between zones.

The drivers, who entered the Collectorate knelt down and pleaded to save them. They dispersed after officials who negotiated with them assured that action would be taken. This caused a stir in the area for some time.
