Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu Farmers Association petitioned the District Collector against the Central government's decision to take over the Urban banks of the Tamilnadu Cooperative society.
They wore turbans while submitting the petition. On behalf of the District President S. Palanisamy, around ten farmers wore turbans and presented the petition at the District Collectorate. They accused that this move would snatch the financial resources of the State government.
The petition read, "The announcement that the Central Government is going to take over Tamilnadu Cooperative Society banks created with the capital of the Tamil people, with its own by-laws, is a way of snatching the financial resources of the state government. The capital for cooperative banks was raised by the society members.
The notice by the Central government to take over the banks that have been formed with the contribution of the public is against the Tamilnadu Cooperative Societies Act and by- laws. This has created a situation where the capital and shares, especially of the farmers, are likely to be snatched by the Central Government without taking the opinion of anyone, without any notice. Hence the Central Government must take back this announcement."
"The electricity draft law will lead to cancellation of free electricity to farmers. Similarly, the essential goods ordinance, agricultural produce trade ordinance, and price guarantee for produce and contract protection ordinance on agricultural services will lead to corporate companies hoarding agricultural produce from farmers and selling it at hiked up prices.
This will affect the livelihood of the farmers and their lands thereby causing huge problems. These should not be implemented. The TN Government must listen to the shortcomings in this and rectify it", added the petition.
