Coimbatore: Federation of Human Rights Organisations in Coimbatore staged an agitation in front of the Periyar Padipagam in Gandhipuram demanding action against police brutality.

Coimbatore: Federation of Human Rights Organisations in Coimbatore staged an agitation in front of the Periyar Padipagam in Gandhipuram demanding action against police brutality.



The agitators protested against alleged excesses such as the Thenkasi farmer Muthu's murder, attack on a young girl by the police in Ranipet, and the Sathankulam incident. The protestors demanded that murder cases must be filed against Forest department guards who they alleged killed farmer Muthu from Anaikarai, Thenkasi. They also demanded legal action against Katpadi Inspector Pugazh who arrested Ranipet Shalini and her child and tortured them.



The protestors demanded that the CBI must file cases against parties such as the Government Doctor Vennila, Judge Saravanan and the Friends of Police in the Sathankulam double murder case.



The TPDK, Dravida Thamizhar Katchi, Aadhi Thamizhar Peravai, TVK and many other organisations protested the torture at police stations and raised slogans.
