An unidentified corpse of a 45 year old man was found lying on the second hairpin bend on the Mettupalayam to Kotagiri mountain way of the Sirumugai forest area. The corpse was in an unrecognisable state with injuries in the hands, legs and chest. The Forest department investigated and concluded that the dead person could have been mentally unstable state and should have been trampled by an elephant when wandering alone in these regions at night.
The police were informed. Since the identity of the dead person is still unknown, the mortal remains are kept at the Mettupalayam hospital for an autopsy.
Even as a slew of warnings have been issued by the Forest Department about increased elephant movement, this death adds volume to the caution that should be exercised by the people in the area.
