Coimbatore: The Perur Padithurai appeared deserted due to the lockdown on Aadi Perukku day.

The 18th day in the Tamil month of Aadi is celebrated as Aadi Perukku. People gather on the river banks and celebrate the day by cooking the favourite food for their ancestors and worship them. Farmers too begin the Aadi pattam cultivation on this day with hope.

The Aadi perukku day is being observed today. Also due to the monsoon rains in the district, Noyyal River is brimming with water, but due to the COVID lockdown that has been extended until August 31 and the complete lockdown on all the Sundays, the Perur Padithurai wears a deserted look.

People lamented that since the day of Aadi Perukku coincided with the lockdown Sunday, they are not able to worship at the temples and visit the Perur Padithurai and pay obeisance to their ancestors.

This led to the Perur Padithurai, a place that is normally filled with people during on Aadi Perukku day to appear deserted. Even special prayers that are offered on this day stand cancelled due to all the temples being closed.
