Coimbatore: The DMK lawyers wing petitioned at the District Collectorate to stop the smuggling of mineral resources from the Kinathukadavu area to Kerala with alleged assistance of the ruling party members.

A lot of stone quarries function at Kinathukadavu near Pollachi. Even though the government has permitted only 30 stone quarries in the surrounding areas of Kinathukadu, more than a 100 stone quarries function here with the assistance of the ruling party, according to the DMK Lawyers wing.

They alleged that these stone quarries also mine the resources deep below the permitted levels and smuggle them to Kerala. They also blast the rocks without proper protective equipment, affecting the farm lands nearby affecting the farmers and farm related businesses in the Kinathukadavu area.

The blasting of rocks causes silica dust to mix with the air causing shortness of breath and lung related diseases. The mining of the mineral resources also destroys the water bodies in the area making the livelihood of the farmers questionable.

They filed the petiton led by the Coimbatore Suburban South District Incharge Thendral Selvaraj in the presence of the City Incharge Dr. Varadarajan and members Marutharaj, Meera Moideen, Senthilkumar and Panchalingam.
