According to it, the forest officials who were engaged in driving away elephants at the residentials areas near the Nellimalai Reserve early yesterday morning came across a male elephant in the herd that had difficulty moving. Authorities were informed about this. They were instructed to track the elephant during the day, but it was as the elephants roamed in herds.
While searching for the elephant today, the officials found the ailing elephant struggling for life half a kilometer into the Nellimalai Forests.

They informed the wildlife veterinarian at Thekkampatti who rushed to the spot and started treating it.

Authorities say the elephant may have gone weak without food because its mouth was bruised.
Forest activists have demanded an inquiry into the matter of another elephant falling sick under mysterious circumstances.
