Complete lockdown will be enforced on all Sundays in August - TN Chief Minister

Chennai: The central government yesterday announced new regulations extending the lockdown in the containment areas until August 31 as a precautionary measure. Following this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy announced today the new lockdown restrictions to be observed for the month of August.

Following this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy announced today the new lockdown restrictions to be observed for the month of August.

He announced that complete lockdown would be observed on all Sundays in August, as it was in July. Private companies are allowed to operate in Chennai with 75% of the employees except the containment areas.

Across Tamil Nadu, 144 will continue and no more than 5 persons can gather together. Vegetable and grocery stores are allowed to operate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. While tea shops and eateries are allowed to function with 50% capacity from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., restaurants can deliver parcels until 9 p.m. Other shops will be allowed to operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The current restrictions in rail and air transport will continue. Extension of ban on public bus transport will continue. Independence Day will be celebrated on August 15 under the guidance of the Central Government.
