Rajarathinam, a construction worker from Chengalpet lost his wife due to illness at Coimbatore GH, where she failed to respond to treatment.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis he had been unable to travel back to his native place and had resorted to sleeping on the roadside and eating at Amma Unavagams.
He then decided to catch fish at the Valankulam and sell it for a livelihood. When he was fishing in the lake, he got into an argument with a few people who asked him not to fish in the area. The tiff got out of hand and the men attacked Rajarathinam.
Due to this Rajarathinam was badly hurt in the head, hands and feet and started bleeding. He arrived at the Coimbatore Police Commissioner's office dripping with blood.
The police on security duty enquired him and took him to the Coimbatore GH in a police vehicle for treatment. Rajarathinam requested that action must be taken against those who attacked him and also tearfully pleaded to be sent back to his native place.
