Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 6,972 fresh COVID cases, taking the tally to 2,27,688 while 88 deaths propelled the State COVID toll to 3,659.
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 6,972 fresh COVID cases, taking the tally to 2,27,688 while 88 deaths propelled the State COVID toll to 3,659.
Tuesday is the fourth successive day the State has logged nearly 7,000 cases after 6988, 6,986, and 6,993 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, respectively.
As many as 61,153 samples were tested, taking the total specimens screened to 24,75,866 so far.
Of the new infections, Chennai (1107) and its nearby three districts of Chengalpattu (365), Kancheepuram (223) and Thiruvallur (486) accounted for 2,546 cases.
While Coimbatore registered another high of 273 cases, Tirupur registered 18 cases and The Nilgiris just 2.
Elsewhere in the State, 16 cases were reported in Ariyalur, 140 in Cuddalore, 6 in Dharmapuri, 113 in Dindigul, 11 in Erode, 195 in Kallakurichi, 223 in Kanyakumari, 17 in Karur, 38 in Krishnagiri, 345 in Madurai, 15 in Nagapattinam, 23 in Namakkal, 25 in Perambalur, 127 in Pudukkottai, 38 in Ramanathapuram, 198 in Ranipet, 120 in Salem, 59 in Sivagangai, 50 in Tenkasi, 209 in Thanjavur, 282 in Theni, 56 in Thirupathur, 266 in Thiruvannamalai, 132 in Thiruvarur, 380 in Thoothukudi, 385 in Tirunelveli, 149 in Trichy, 148 in Vellore, 91 in Villupuram, and 577 in Virudhunagar districts.
Down south, the scenario continues to remain grim with the districts there cumulatively posting a whopping 2,529 positives accounting for 36% of the new cases today.
In some good news active cases stood at 57,073 and recoveries touched 1,66,956, including 4,707 people discharged today.
