Coimbatore: City corporation officials on Monday levied a penalty of Rs 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 on The Chennai Silks and Pothys on Cross Cut road here for flouting social distancing norms.
The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has formed flying squads to intensify checks on COVID-19 guidelines and violations in the city.
Based on complaints from the public and during surprise inspections, several shops from small tea shops to big clothing stores are being penalised for flouting COVID norms by allowing customers without wearing masks, over crowding and tgervy not maintaining social distancing.
The shops -- The Chennai Silks and Pothys clothing store located on Cross Cut road were levied fines for flouting the norms.
Despite repeated instructions, commercial outlets flouting social distancing and operating stores with Air-conditioners has been reported widely by the people.
Such erring shops are being penalised and warned by the Corporation.
The District Collector has also sternly issued a warning that shops defying norms will be ordered to shut down.
