Coimbatore: The Variety Hall Road police station has been closed as a sub-inspector at the station tested positive for COVID-19.

The worrying spread of COVID-19 in Coimbatore district has been affecting all sections of society. This has led to the closure of many police stations in Coimbatore due to cops testing positive for the disease day in and day out.

Cops at Madukkarai, Podanur and Thudiyalur police stations have tested positive for COVID-19, leading to temporary closure and shifting of police stations to other locations. Further, the people who arrive at the stations for filing complaints are made to submit their complaints in front of the police stations where tents have been erected.

This being the case, a 40-year-old sub-inspector at the Variety Hall police station tested positive for COVID-19. The policeman resides at the Police Quarters in Gandhipuram. Following this, he has been admitted at a private hospital for treatment.

The police station has been fumigated, closed temporarily and shifted to a marriage hall on Ayyan Gounder Street, near the police station.
