Coimbatore: As a part of the TN government's plan to provide free face masks to ration card holders, two face masks will be provided per card. Around 10 lakh ration card holders will be provided with face masks in Coimbatore.
Under the new scheme launched by the TN government today, 80 lakh face masks will be provided to 10.14 lakh ration card holders, at two masks per ration card in the district.
There are 10,14,600 ration cards in the Coimbatore District. Of this 9,27,455 are 'rice' ration cards. To help the people during the COVID-19 crisis rice, lentils, sugar and palm oil are being provided for free under the public distribution system. To help maintain social distancing during the distribution, markings are made in front of the ration shop.
Additionally, the TN government has decided to provide free face masks from today. However the face masks have not reached the ration shops in Coimbatore district.
Speaking about this an official of the District Administration said, "The face masks allotted for Coimbatore will arrive by tonight. 80 lakh face masks will be distributed to 10 lakh ration card holders at two masks per card all over the district."
