Coimbatore: The KR Nagar causeway near Veerapandi Pirivu sank due to the heavy rains that lashed Coimbatore. This has inconvenienced motorists who are now unable to reach their destinations.

Heavy downpour for close to an hour in Ukkadam, Gandhipuram, Kavundampalayam, Narasimhanaickenpalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam, Veerapandi Pirivu and Thudiyalur caused the roads to flood.

Due to the rains the KR Nagar causeway on the road to Veerapandi from Veerapandi Pirivu on Mettupalayam Road went underwater.

Motorists who could not cross the area due to this struggled for close to half an hour. The water that runs under the bridge joins the Bhavani river. The public have requested for dredging to be undertaken in this canal that is under the Veerapandi Town Panchayat, to avoid the bridge from sinking during rainy seasons.
