Coimbatore: The Sivanadiar Thirukootam filed petitions to the Coimbatore District Collector and Police Commissioner to take action against CPI(M)'s Sundaravalli for her comments against Thirugnanasambandar on an YouTube channel.

Coimbatore: The Sivanadiar Thirukootam filed petitions to the Coimbatore District Collector and Police Commissioner to take action against CPI(M)'s Sundaravalli for her comments against Thirugnanasambandar on an YouTube channel.

Thirugnanasambandar is considered as one of the most prominent Tamil poets of the 7th and 8th centuries. Thevaram written by Thirugnansambandar is a revered work in Saivite poetic tradition.

An opinion expressed by Sundaravalli about the poet has caused an uproar among Saivities prompting them to file a petition to take action against her.

In the petition they said, "The Thevaram was written to provide respite to all the living beings and bring them joy. However, the pious poet Thirugnansambandhar and the divine text he has written have been slandered on the YouTube channel Galatta Tamil, by CPI(M)'s Sundaravalli. She said that one of the three great poets who presented the Thevaram, Thirugnanasambandar had illicit connections with women of other religions. This is entirely untruthful. This comment has hurt the sentiments of the Saivities. People are constantly involved in hurting Hindu religious sentiments. None of the comments expressed by them are in Thevaram."

The Sivanadiyar Thirukootam requested action against those who expressed such views.
