Coimbatore: The joint meeting of the CPI and CPI(M) took place on July 25, 2020 at the CPI (M) office in Coimbatore.
MP P.R. Natarajan led the meeting and former MLA M. Arumugam, CPI (M) District Secretary V. Ramamoorthy, K. Ajaykumar, U.K. Sivagnanam, CPI District leaders R.A. Govindaraj, S. Sivasami and Mounasamy took part in the meeting.
The following resolutions were passed at the meeting:
1. To control the price hike of food products, petrol- diesel and electricity at a time when the COVID-19 crisis and the lockdown have already hit the common man hard
2. To provide Rs.7,500 to all the sections of the people including educated people and daily wage labourers who are suffering from unemployment, salary reduction, pay cuts, trade freezes and small businesses.
3. To extend the 100-day employment scheme to 200-day employment scheme in villages and to extend it to the town panchayats
4. The new electricity project being considered by the BJP will cancel out the 100 unit free electricity being provided to homes, 750 unit free electricity being provided to powerlooms, once in two months and the free electricity being provided for agriculture. Hence the government must not undertake this new project.
5. More than the trouble caused by COVID-19, the regressive activities of the Modi government have caused more grief to the people. The reservation for the OBC has now been brought to include the monthly income and land income within the income ceiling. This will cause a majority of the people to lose their reservation in the education and employment areas due to the atrocious activities of the Modi government.
6. When the common man is suffering from economic crisis, trade crisis, loss of trade and price rise issues, there are other issues such as vandalising statues and temples. On behalf of the district councils of both the parties, we request the people of Coimbatore to isolate and ignore such anti-social elements.
