Coimbatore: Hindu organizations have been conducting protests in condemnation of a YouTube channel called Karuppar Kootam, which uploaded a video that allegedly desecrated Kanda Shasti Kavasam - a Tamil hymn on Lord Muruga. The BJP in particular has been pushing for the arrest of all key members of the channel under the Goondas Act.
As part of this, more than 40 BJP cadres led by District Chief Nandakumar staged a protest in front of the BJP office in Coimbatore by chanting Kanda Sashti Kavasam and performing 'kavadi attam' before a Murugan temple in front of the office in Sidhapudur area. They also raised slogans in praise of Lord Murugan.
Speaking to reporters after this, Nandakumar said that the Karuppar Kootam who had desecrated the Kanda Sashti Kavasam of the Tamil god Murugan should be arrested under the Goondas Act. He also demanded that the government declare the Thaipusam festival a public holiday and that the DMK, which is backing the Karuppar kootam, should change its course.
