Coimbatore: Police have arrested seven persons for trying to smuggle ration rice to Kerala in Pollachi and Kottur areas. Unidentified persons are smuggling free ration rice provided by the Tamil Nadu government to Kerala via Pollachi. They do so using two-wheelers and cars through Nadupuni, Gopalapuram, Meenatchipuram and Govindapuram areas on the Kerala border near Pollachi.

Unidentified persons are smuggling free ration rice provided by the Tamil Nadu government to Kerala via Pollachi. Following this, on the orders of the Coimbatore District Superintendent and of Deputy Superintendent KG Sivakumar, SI Karthi and police personnel led by Inspector Vairam of the West Police Station engaged in a vehicle inspection at a checkpoint. Abdul Jabbar from Vanna Madai in Kerala, who tried to cross the check post on a two-wheeler, was stopped and interrogated. It was found that he tried to smuggle ration rice to Kerala illegally. They confiscated 250 kg of ration rice from him.
Further, on an inspection near Zamin Uthukuli, the police nabbed Farooq from Pollachi and Mani from Kottur who tried to smuggle 800 kg of ration rice in a minivan with the help of a few persons from Vannamalai.

Investigations revealed that Alam and Aman from Kerala were the smuggling kingpins. The police have confiscated the van and two-wheeler the gang used for smuggling and are on the lookout for absconding Alam and Aman.
On the instructions of Deputy Superintendent Vivekanandan in the Kottur area under the Anaimalai Police Station, a team led by Inspector Subramaniam raided a few vehicles and found ration rice that was smuggled to Anaimalai via Kottur. Ten bundles of rice and 4 two-wheelers used for smuggling were seized and the smugglers were arrested. Police are searching for an absconding Anaimalai Abbas.
