In 1997, 17 tea plantation workers were shot dead during a struggle for pay rise at the Manjolai tea estate in Tirunelveli district.
Protesters chanted slogans demanding justice for the shootings and paid respects to the deceased.
It was attended by a large number of people, including city secretary Ramakrishnan, Senthil Murugan, and Balraj.
