Coimbatore: Members of Kongu Vellalar Gounder Peravai and Naangu Thisai Vellalar Sangam submitted a petition at the Coimbatore District Collectorate and office of the District Superintendent of Police seeking action against Puthiya Thamizhagam for misrepresenting the term "Vellalar."

The petition that was submitted to District Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan read, "The founder and chief of Puthiya Thamizhagam, Dr. Krishnaasamy, has made a casteistic announcement that could cause riots. He announced that Puthiya Thamizhagam branch officers all over Tamil Nadu should have party nameboards with "Devendrakula Vellalar" imprinted on them.

The Government of Tamil Nadu declared in court that it has not been able to restrict the usage of the term "Vellalar" because it is a sensitive issue and the term is an exclusive caste name for a few sections of people. Under the circumstances, Dr. Krishnasamy's announcement can incite riots.Manuneethi Chozhan from Puthiya Thamizhagam has been placing inflammatory posters about this issue and posting the photographs of those posters on his social media pages. Another cadre Senthil Mallar speaks ill about women who belong to our caste.

We demand action against these three who are trying to disrupt the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of the various castes and communities in Tamil Nadu."

They also petitioned the District Superintendent of Police.
