Coimbatore: Tense situation prevailed for a brief time in Annur Police Station on Tuesday evening, after a group of people belonging to Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TPDK) staged an agitation questioning the police for allegedly acting biased on complaints lodged against people from Hindu outfits.
Citing the recent case filed on Shanmuganathan, a third year law student from Annur near Coimbatore for allegedly posting objectionable content pertaining to PM, Modi and Kandha Shasti Kavasam - a Tamil hymn on Lord Muruga, the TPDK members sought explantion as to why action was not initiated against a Hindu outfit person who posted defamatory content against Periyar, on his social media wall.
The Annur Police have reportedly filed cases under the IPC Sections 153(a), 295(a) and 505(2) were booked against Shanmuganathan.
Following this, members of TPDK lodged a complaint at Annur Police station against a person called Nandha of a right wing outfit for allegedly posting defamatory content on his Facebook page about Thanthai Periyar.
Demanding action against their complaint, the TPDK members staged an agitation alleging the Police for not acting upon such complaints in a fair manner. They warned to conduct protests on a large scale, if action is not initiated against their complaint.
Following this, Annur Police held discussions with them.
