A consultative meeting on coronavirus infection prevention was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate in the presence of Minister Vijayabaskar and Minister SP Velumani also participated. Speaking to reporters, Health Minister Vijayabaskar said special measures are undertaken to treat COVID patients in Coimbatore with plasma therapy.

With 1609 people discharged recovered and 806 receiving treatment, 1,69,000 PCR tests have been conducted in the district so far, he informed. He said Coimbatore stands next to Chennai in the number of samples collected. He added that the number of fever camps will be increased to diagnose the disease in Coimbatore. He opined that the virus is the enemy, not the patients. He said up to 4,000 corona tests can be done per day in Coimbatore and the government is taking all measures to deal with emergencies.

Coimbatore has 4,650 beds ready and arrangements are being made to increase the number of beds at Coimbatore ESI Hospital by 500, he said. He said the discovery of a vaccine by Oxford University for Coronavirus is promising and that medicine for COVID would come soon. He added that steps are taken to provide plasma treatment in Coimbatore and the contribution of Siddha medicine to COVID treatment is also significant.

He said there is no delay in getting the results of the coronavirus tests and the situation is unpredictable all over the world. He also said people should not have about the increasing COVID deaths as most of the fatalities are due to comorbidities. It is enough if people exercise caution, he added.

Minister SP Velumani said that quality treatment is being provided to COVID patients in Coimbatore. He also said that government hospitals are treating patients better than private hospitals. He confirmed that those who come to Coimbatore by air are being subjected to COVID-19 tests.
