Coimbatore: The monsoon rains have brought about an increased supply of water to the Bhavani river. Since the new water appears muddy, the Municipality has advised the public to drink boiled water to avoid any illnesses.

Continuous rains in the Nilgiris and the forests of Kerala in the Western Ghats have caused an increase in the supply of water to the Pillur dam. This has resulted in muddy waters in the Bhavani river which flows through Mettupalayam. This river remains the source of water to 20 different schemes that provide drinking water to Mettupalayam and surrounding villages and Tirupur Corporation.

Houses in the Municipality are provided with drinking water that gets purified at the Samanna Water House near S.M. Nagar. However, the Municipal administration has advised the public to boil the water before it is consumed in order to avoid any water related illnesses.

With COVID-19 infections on the up, the public have been advised to boil the water so that illnesses such as fever and cold can be avoided.
