Coimbatore: Even as news pertaining to deaths of elephants are rife for months now, the death of an 8 to 9-year-old male Indian Gaur in the Siddhakkonai tribal settlement near Nellithurai has come as a shock.
Mettupalayam Forest Officer Selvaraj was immediately informed about this. A team of forest officials inspected the animal and informed the district forest officer. On his orders, Thekkampatti Assistant Veterinarian K.Rajeshkumar conducted an autopsy in the presence of WNCT Forest Officers and the Siddhakkonai tribals.
According to a forest official, the Indian Gaur may have died due to lung infection. Organs removed from the animals have been sent for analysis. He said that reasons behind to death can be deduced only after the analysis is done.
