The Coimbatore Ukkadam-Athupalam road is the main road to Pollachi and to Kerala via Walayar. Apart from this, it is also the main road to areas including Kuniamuthur and Podanur. With traffic congestion getting out of hand, construction of the flyover between Ukkadam-Aathupalam was begun in April 2018.

In the first phase, Rs.216 crores was allocated for stretch between Ukkadam and Karumpukadai. Over 45 of the 55 pillars planned in the stretch have been erected. The work of laying the pavement on more than 15 pillars is also underway. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 265 crore for the second phase of the flyover from Karumbukadai to Aathupalam. Once the first first phase is over, work for the second phase will commence.

Meanwhile, the authorities are planning to set up landings at three places on the Ukkadam-Aathupalam flyover for the convenience of motorists and to avoid traffic congestion on the flyover.
