Pillur Dam near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore District has been built on the Western Ghats and has a capacity of 100 feet.
With levels at various reservoirs rising due to the onset of the southwest monsoon, Pillur dam also has started receiving steady inflow of water due to continuous showers in Pillur and Bhanavi catchment areas.
The water level at Pillur dam was four feet last week and the current level is 86 feet out of the total capacity of 100 feet. Water released from the dam is used only for power generation.
As a result, the flow of water to the Bhavani River has increased and people are relieved that there would not be scarcity of water for the various drinking water projects that are based on the Pillur Dam.
