Coimbatore: The recent video by a YouTube channel with derogatory remarks on Hindu deity Murugan and the song "Kandha Sashti Kavasam" sung in praise of the deity has triggered unrest and protests across the state by pro-Hindu outfits including BJP.

Offended by the video, several Murugar devotees, general public and heads of various political parties have expressed their anger and disapproval over the sleazy content which they allege to hurt the religious beliefs of a section of people.
Meanwhile, Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani who has condemned the video content and demanded a probe has questioned on the radio silence of DMK Chief MK Stalin over the issue.
In a tweet, the Minister has mocked Stalin by asking "Why is Stalin who issues 'instant' statements for every other issue, is radio silent about the Murugar issue which has sparked controversy and hurt the religious sentiments of millions of people in Tamil Nadu and Hindus living across the globe?."
"Oh, may be his drama of visiting temples would take place only during elections to appease the people", he criticised.
The Minister also accused that there are alleged reports on Stalin's partymen being involved in the issue, so may be, he remains to be muted on the issue? he mocked.
Following the incident, a Periyar statue in Sundarapuram here was painted in saffron by a Hindu outfit's functionary who was arrested on Friday. Condemning the act, DMK President MK Stalin tweeted against the act.
However, he passed no comments on the youtube video which has triggered unrest in Tamil Nadu.
Three Hindu temples were vandalised on Saturday in Coimbatore and CCTV footages of a man setting ablaze the roof of a temple and damaging the vel and trisul has been released. The police are investigating.
Based on the complaint by TN BJP, Surendran Natarajan of the said YouTube channel Karuppar Koottam on Monday has been booked by the Cyber Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai police for his video by the which allegedly contained derogatory remarks hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu people.
A case has been filed under Sections 153 (intent to cause riot), 153(A)(1)(a) (causes disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities), 295(p) (defiling a place of worship), 505(1)(b) (likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public), 505(2) (makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) of the Indian Penal Code.
