Special pujas and arathis were held early in morning at Koniyamman and Thandu Mariamman temples. As a rule, none of the devotees were allowed to go inside the temple for darshan and the doors of the temple remained closed.
Nevertheless, a few devotees stood outside the temples. Special decorations were in place at the Thiyagi Kumaran Market Plague Mariamman temple. In rural areas, a small number of devotees were allowed for worship.
