The Nilgiris: A village administration officer who failed to monitor the spread of COVID near Ooty has been suspended.

At a time when COVID was relatively under control in the Nilgiris, the public went on unnecessary trips and festivals due to the relaxations announced by the government last month. As a result, the case tally in the district rose to 320. Of these, 116 have recovered and returned home.

Meanwhile, more than 50 persons have contracted the virus from an infected person at functions held 15 days ago in the Tharangadu and Oranalli areas near Ooty. The carriers infected more persons at areas including Mulligoor and Ebbanad, which have become COVID clusters now.

While only 50 persons are allowed for functions, it is said that more than 100 participated in both the ceremonies. Under the circumstances, VAO Ayyappan has been suspended by RDO Suresh for failing to monitor the COVID norms.
