Coimbatore: A protest was held today against Aruvankadu Cordite Factory GM who asked workers to speak English or Hindi instead of Tamil at a meeting held to discuss COVID preventive measures.
The centrally owned ammunition factory is operating in Aruvankadu, The Nilgiris.On Thursday evening, representatives from unions including CFLU, DFLU and INTUC met with the General Manager Sanjay Wagle to discuss measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the factory. When they began conversing in Tamil about their 20-point demands, the GM halted them and asked them to speak either in English or Hindi.
The workers protested on Friday in condemnation of this and called it as linguistic discrimination.
"If the GM tries to impose restrictions on speaking in Tamil at the factory and promote other languages, we will gather cadres from all the political parties and conduct a large-scale protest," informed Hariharan, General Secretary of CPLU.
