COVID-19: TN records 4,538 new cases: Single-day fatalities at an alltime high of 79

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu saw yet another day of high with 4,538 new coronavirus cases as the state’s overall tally reached 1,60,907 on Friday.

Another 79 fatalities (23 private/56 government) were recorded in the last 24 hours, an alltime high since the onset of the pandemic, while 3,391 patients were discharged from hospitals across the state, the latest State Health bulletin said.

The state’s COVID-19 toll now stands at 2,315 and the total number of discharges at 1,10,807, leaving 47,782 active cases, the bulletin added.

Chennai continues to register relatively low numbers even as it continues to be the COVID epicentre. The State Capital registered 1,243 cases today.

Meanwhile, Chennai's neighbouring districts and southern Tamil Nadu continue to record high numbers.

The Nilgiris and Tirupur districts registered 52 and 28 new cases, respectively.
