Coimbatore: A Bharat Sena cadre functionary has surrendered to the police in the case of vandalising a Periyar statue by pouring saffron paint on it in Coimbatore's Sundarapuram area.
Tense moments prevailed at Sundarapuram area on Friday morning, after some miscreants poured saffron paint on a Periyar statue here.

Various political parties including BJP's State Vice President, Vanathi Srinivasan have condemned the act. Vanathi Srinivasan said " it's not BJP's ideology to vandalise statues".

The Kuniyamuthur police registered a case against the unidentified perpetrators on three counts of inciting riots, inciting hostility and disturbing public peace. They also were investigating CCTV footage from the area.
Under the circumstances, Arun Krishnan from Anna Nagar surrendered at the Podanur Police station and admitted to committing the misdemeanour. Arun Krishnan is an executive of Coimbatore District South Bharat Sena.
