Coimbatore: The State witnessed a paradox of highs today with the highest ever single-day surge and recoveries of 4,549 and 5,106.

With the number of people cured of COVID in Tamil Nadu inching toward the 1,10,000 mark, the State reported 69 deaths (25 private, 44 government) and 4,549 fresh cases today, its highest single-day spike.

The State’s COVID tally soared to 1,56,369 and the toll rose to 2,236, but with 5,106 patients discharged on Tuesday, the recoveries totalled 1,07,416 as a result of which the tally of active cases decreased to 46,714.

Keeping in line with the downward trend that Chennai has been maintaining for days now, the State Capital registered 1,157 new cases.

While all the districts in the State recorded new cases today, the picture continues to remain grim down south with districts such as Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari among others churning out high numbers yet again.

The western districts of The Nilgiris and Tirupur continue to display relatively high numbers of positives; the districts registered 43 and 39 new cases, respectively.
