Everyone in the Coimbatore district is required to wear a face mask to control the spread of the coronavirus. Corporation formed 20 flying squads comprising health and corporation officials to monitor the use of face masks.
The squads also conduct surprise inspections at shops and commercial establishments.
An official with the corporation said, "248 shops have been for violating government regulations while 27 people have been charged for violating government regulations. Those who do not wear face masks are also fined."
