Tirupur: Communist Party of India (CPI) workers today staged a novel protest by planting crops on potholed roads at the Veerapandi area in Tirupur.
There are frequent accidents due to substandard roads in various parts of Tirupur Corporation. In particular, the road in the Veerapandi area that connects the Tirupur-Dharapuram and the Tirupur-Palladam Roads is in a very bad shape. The gravel used to lay the road has come off causing huge potholes. During the rainy season, motorists meet with accidents due to the accumulation of rainwater on the potholed road.

Citing these complaints, the Communist Party of India (CPI) today launched a novel protest of planting crops on the road, urging the government to repair the potholes in the area. They raised slogans demanding that the road that has claimed many lives be relaid at one.
The protest caused disruption of traffic in the area for some time.
