The Coimbatore district has been maintaining a steady upward trend in COVID cases for some time now. Collector of the district, K.Rajamani contracted the infection today and has been admitted at a private hospital.
Meanwhile, seven cops, including two special sub-inspectors working at the Coimbatore Madukkarai police station have turned positive for the dreaded virus and are undergoing treatment at the ESI Hospital.
The station has been shifted temporarily to a nearby wedding hall. This is the fourth police station to be shut down following the ones at Sulur, Thudiyalur and Podanur.
Police personnel are in a state of dismay and shock because of the rapid proliferation of COVID infections within the department.
