Coimbatore: Various projects worth Rs 998 crore have been announced and implemented under the Smart City scheme in Coimbatore. In particular, the 24-hour drinking water supply scheme, LED. Electric Lighting, Multi Level Car Parking, Ukkadam Lorry Pettai Relocation, Vellalore Integrated Bus Stand, VOC Park Projects such as park expansion, beautification and upgrading of ponds under the control of the corporation were announced.

Of this, a large sum is being spent on Smart City funds only for beautification and renovation of pools. Work worth Rs. 62 crore is underway in Ukkadam Periyakulam under the Smart City project. Work is underway to beautify the banks, set up a park, set up a walking and skating rink.
Following Ukkadam Periyakulam, the banks of Valankulam are being refurbished to the tune of Rs. 40 crore. It is noteworthy that the first phase of work worth Rs. 23 crore is underway in Valankulam. Similarly, the embankment of the Selvachinthamani pond is being rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 31.47 crore.

Work is in full swing to set up a cycling and skating rink in Valankulam to attract public to use them. Apart from this a walking training site will be set up. A nature park will be set up at the walking and cycling site. A floating bridge will be set up on the water and a 'playing zone' will be set up for children to play. Sports equipment for boys will also be set up. Many such entertainment features are to be set up in Valankulam. All of these works are expected to be completed in a month or two.
