Coimbatore: Primary and upper primary section students who have been availing midday meals are being given dry rations of food grains at Coimbatore schools.
Coimbatore: Primary and upper primary section students who have been availing midday meals are being given dry rations of food grains at Coimbatore schools.

Based on a government order issued on July 2 from the Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department, a pack comprising 3.1 kg rice and 1.2 kg pulses is given to a child from primary class while upper primary children are given 4.65 kg rice and 1.25 kg pulses each.

Students at government and government aided schools have been receiving the packs from their respective schools under the supervision of the Physical Education teachers.

All of the students wear face masks, sanitize their hands and form queues with social distancing while receiving the supplies.
The headmasters of the schools the children study in, block development officials, social welfare officials and representatives from parent-teacher associations are also assisting with the distribution.
